Step 1: Set Up the ONT

Once located, check the indicator lights on the ONT. A properly working ONT will show stable power and optical signal lights. The optical light is especially important because it confirms that the fiber internet signal is active.

If any of the lights are off or blinking abnormally, the fiber connection may not be active yet. In such cases, the issue is usually on the provider’s side and not related to your router setup.

Step 2: Power On the ONT

Plug in the ONT and wait for two to three minutes. This gives the device time to boot up and register with your ISP's network. Powering the ONT and router simultaneously can sometimes prevent the router from detecting the connection properly.

Take an Ethernet cable and plug one end into the LAN port of the ONT.

This is written on a label on the router, typically on the bottom or back. Common addresses are 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1.

Use the default username and password supplied in the router's manual. Go to Settings > WAN or Internet settings. You'll see connection type options commonly DHCP, Static IP or PPPoE. 

Most fiber setups use DHCP (automatic). If your ISP is PPPoE, then choose PPPoE and type your username and password that your ISP provided you upon signing up. Store the settings and restart the router.

Step 6: Testing Internet Connection

Connect your phone or laptop to Wi-Fi and open a website to confirm the connection. For accurate speed results, perform a speed test.

Once installed, if the connection is not working as it should, check the Ethernet cable between the ONT and the router. If the optical light is 'off' or 'red' after a reboot, it is not related to the installation process but to the ISP provider.
